Ron: Hi, Are you Eliyahu
Eli: Yes, my name is Elijah but they call me Eli.
Ron: OK, Eli. So where were you born?
Eli: I was born in Iran, in a city named Shiraz.
Ron: Ah! Shiraz! City of gardens, if I'm not mistaken.
Eli: (very) correct. And once there was a large Jewish community in the city. The Jews lived in Shiraz for more than 1,000 years.
Ron: When did your family settle in Israel?
Eli: In 1979, on the eve of the Islamic revolution.
Ron: How old were you when you settled in Israel?
Eli: I was 13 years old. My bar-mitzvah celebration was there.
Ron: So you speak Persian.
Eli: Of course. And I read and write, obviously.
